This all-levels class integrates trauma-informed teaching principles with an
alignment-based approach to asana, offered at a slower pace that supports
nervous system regulation and present-moment awareness. Students are
guided to explore postures with attentiveness to physical safety and internal
experience, rather than external performance.
The practice draws from a range of therapeutic and contemplative tools,
which may include grounding techniques, pranayama, meditation, and
chanting, alongside an asana sequence encompassing core work, standing
poses, seated poses, twists, arm balances, and restorative postures, with
particular attention given to shoulder and hip openers to support the release
of commonly held tension. Alignment principles are emphasized throughout
to promote structural integrity and reduce risk of strain or injury, at times
integrated into a slow, mindful flow.
Each session is anchored by an inspirational or philosophical theme intended
to support reflection and self-inquiry. Consistent with trauma-informed
practice, language is invitational and choice-based, and modifications and
options are offered throughout to support each student's autonomy and
individual needs. This class is accessible to students of all levels and
experience.
